Grand Opening of Electric Vehicle Store Could Bring New Lifestyle to City of Winter Park.
New RELAY Store Introduces Electric Vehicles of all Kinds to Central Florida Residents.

A husband and wife team from England hopes to bring a new dimension to the neighborly atmosphere, as well as an environmentally healthy climate, to the City of Winter Park. And they’re doing it with a new concept in stores: RELAY – a single source for all types of Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVS); that includes Segway™ Human Transporters, Global Electric Motorcars (GEM’s) and Electric Scooters.

This will be the first Relay showroom in the nation from parent company, Relay Transportation, Inc. Additional Relay stores will be announced in the near future. Relay, Winter Park owners Roger and Christine Thorpe, who moved from England to the United States and made Winter Park their home, are sure the Winter Park community is a perfect place for a store of this kind. The City, originally founded in the late 1800’s as a resort community was designed with dozens of quaint small roads, side streets, parks and paths. Roger & Christine believe electric vehicles will make life better, providing an environmentally friendly and safe way for individuals and families to travel from their homes to shopping, schools, and to visit with friends and family.

Roger says the scooters, electric vehicles and Segways are just another great way to bring Winter Park community members together. These low speed electric transportation devices are a unique way to get where you’re going, but still leave you open to wave, talk and visit with neighbors. Roger and Christine are already receiving a lot of attention around town in their own GEM car. “We were just down Park Avenue. Everybody stares or waves; we’re already attracting a lot of interest.”
Additionally, the electric vehicles solve the headaches residents and visitors run into when trying to park in the community - two GEM cars can fit into one parking space. “They are a real asset to the community,” says Roger.

Before moving from England, Roger and Christine owned a successful regional retail business. Now they hope the beautiful weather and established community of Winter Park will help their new venture thrive.

Global Electric Motorcars (GEM’s) The fun, efficient GEM car just makes sense. GEM's are emission free and extremely inexpensive to maintain. The simplicity and effectiveness of the GEM, operating on 110v household current, moves people throughout their community at the cost of a mere 1 penny a mile. They are street legal on roads posted to 35 MPH. The U.S. Government also offers a 10% tax credit for purchasing a GEM. There are 4 models of GEM cars available (2 seat, 4 seat, short bed truck and long bed truck). Prices start as low as $5995.

The Segway™ Human Transporter (HT) - This ultra-cool, self-balancing, personal transportation device is the first of its kind. Designed to operate in any pedestrian environment, it gives people everywhere the ability to move faster and carry more, allowing them to commute, shop, and run errands more efficiently. And it does it all by harnessing some of the most advanced, thoroughly tested technology ever created. Relay will carry three models: the i series, the e series and the p series…all upgraded with the latest technology for maximum safety and efficiency. Prices start at $3995.

Electric Scooter – This ain’t your granddad’s scooter!! Scooters continue to be a hot commodity for kids. A wide variety of standing and sitting electric scooters are available, including the Astroid, Tsunami, Charly, Trailz, Currie and the Zappy which folds to be just over three feet in length and 36 lbs. Kids (suitable 8+) especially love to zip around town on the scooters that reach 10-15 MPH, but are also loads of fun for the kid in all of us. Prices start at $399.

An assortment of electric vehicles are also available for rent and lease at the store.
