The Tampa Bay Lightning will open their 12th training camp on Thursday, September 11 at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon. Players will report to Brandon on September 11 for physicals and photos, and they will undergo fitness testing on Friday, September 12. Saturday, September 13 will be the first day of on-ice scrimmages and practices.

Florida Panthers
Florida Panthers General Manager Rick Dudley announced Thursday that the club has signed unrestricted free agent LW Jonas Hoglund to a one-year contract. "Jonas is a proven two-way player in the National Hockey League," said Dudley. "He has fine offensive ability and is an intelligent defensive player who will fit well into our system."

On a night the lights went out at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Expos pulled the plug on the Marlins' share of the Wild Card lead. Powered by Todd Zeile's two home runs and a solo shot by Joe Vitiello, the Expos tripped up the Marlins, 6-2.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Jeremi Gonzalez gave the Devil Rays another strong start on Friday, allowing three runs over 6 1/3 innings. But the right-hander couldn't come away with a victory as the Devil Rays saw their modest two-game winning streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to the visiting A's. Tampa Bay managed just four hits off Oakland starter Ted Lilly and three relievers.
